Description. The Grade II listing for Doveden Hall includes the following information.
A message on this site was given along with land to the Abbey in Bury St Edmunds in 1292 to support St Petronillas chapel in Bury.
The present house is C15 and was leased to John Smith of Great Horningsheath (now known as Horringer) in 1522.
The house was orignally a three cell open hall house. It had major alterations in the late C16 including a new parlour. The house is of timber frame and render with fine C16 brick chimneys to the rear.
The house has been known by various names over the years including Dorrington, Duffin and Doveton Hall.
In 1841 the house was occupied by Richard Balls, aged 39, Farmer, his wife Sarah,36, and thier five children aged from 1 to 9.
In 1844 Doveden was occupied by James Lee.
