The Whepstead War Memorial was originally a wooden board displayed in the Black Horse. A more substantial memorial was not created until 2000. The brick base was built by Keith Feakes and the stonework by Roly Nice and his son. The names on the Memorial are as follows:-

1914-1918

Arthur Bumpstead, Harry Bumpstead, Ernest Fisher, William Flack, George Grimwood, Harry Hurrell, Bertie Mason, John Musk, Walter Pawsey, Thomas Reynolds, Frederick Rolfe, Geoffrey Rolfe and Frederick Spink.

1939-1945

David Hardy, Edward Taylor, William Wallace.

In 2017 the new affordable housing development in Rectory Road was named William Flack, as he was the first Whepstead man to lose his life in World War One.
