Thomas Forde appears to have lived in the village in the early C16th. His will is dated 1540. He leaves a house and grounds in Whepstead to his wife Anne. The Will appears to say that the house is in Nether Street and was previously called Robert Handens. Thomas was anxious to settle his debts to Whepstead church as he leaves to the high altar of Whepstead "my tithes and offerings negligently forgotten".
