Whepstead Wildlife Group was formed in January 2019

We aim to:
•    Share information about the wildlife in our village
•    Learn more about our local wildlife through talks and visits
•    Take practical steps to improve the environment for wildlife.

In 2020 the group undertook a major, long term project, to help to restore a small ancient woodland which had been degraded by deer. With the help of grants from Suffolk County Council, The Woodland Trust and St Edmundsbury District Council the wood has now been fully fenced and we are now starting to manage the woodland.

The group has installed a number of owl boxes in the village and other members work with Suffolk Hedgehog Hospital to foster hogs over the winter.

We are a friendly group and whether you wish to get involved in practical work or simply to share information about your garden birds you would be welcome to join us. To find out more please contact us.

Photography by group members, with particular thanks to Dave Rushton for his on-going photographic work in Cages Wood.
